Data Architect

About the role

As a Data Architect you will be helping FGH on their Cloud Transformation Journey. 

Your Primary responsibility will be to lead the complete lifecycle for Enterprise Architecture in the Data and related cloud application areas (Integrations & Data Flow).  You will develop an Enterprise Strategy for Data at FGH and see that to completion via a combination of your communication , influencing and technical skills.  Developing and owning the Data “Platforms” enabling understanding and analytics.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead the complete lifecycle for enterprise architecture in the area of Data & Analytics, influencing strategy and providing thought leadership to IT and the Business
  • Initiate and lead a strategic, large-scale data improvement programme, working across the business to deliver business outcomes
  • Develop the Enterprise Architecture roadmap in the areas of data and applications
  • Responsible for developing reference architecture and guidance on industry-accepted data architecture principles and standards on FGH data landscape
  • Undertaking structured analysis of business data requirements, translating this analysis into data models and designs
  • Ensuring data is of consistent design across the systems which use it
  • Creating and maintaining organisational knowledge about data and the systems it moves through enabling data to be managed as an asset
  • Being consulted on the data design of a solution and are capable of providing reusable, data design patterns to ensure consistent data
  • Identifying potential risks to data by poor design decisions and can explain these to stakeholders
  • Looking for opportunities to collaborate and reuse data components, communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Work with business and technology stakeholders to translate business needs into technical data designs so processes have the trusted data they need
  • Create optimal designs through an iterative process, aligning the user need with the organisational strategic data objectives
  • To log, analyse and manage problems in order to identify and implement the appropriate solution
  • Understand how data is translated into valuable insights that inform decisions.
  • To involve teams in analytics and synthesis to increase consensus and challenge assumptions
  • To communicate effectively across organisational and technical boundaries. Translate data concepts between business users, software engineering, agile delivery management and product management so they are understood by all
  • Identify and use the most appropriate analytical techniques, and have an understanding of analytical tools
  • Design and build scalable and resilient Data & Analytics solutions in Microsoft Azure - architect technical solutions to obtain, process, store and provide insights based on processed data
  • You collaborate and co-ordinate with multiple departments, stakeholders, partners, and external vendors on data architecture topics including close co-operation with internal team of solution/data engineers and data operators
  • You translate business requirements into technical specifications and streamline data backbone towards unified architecture
  • Working with the Head of EA and EA team to continuously improve the maturity of FGH's Architecture and Cloud Platform Principles.

About you

  • Deep knowledge of Microsoft products - particularly Azure Cloud Technologies & methods, and software development & architecture is essential
  • Understand established data management and reporting technologies, and have some knowledge of columnar and NoSQL databases, predictive analytics, data visualization, and unstructured data.
  • Proven ability to architect, design and implement cloud-based and/or cloud-native solutions data solutions or “Platforms”
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with people at all levels, internally and externally with proven ability to influence senior leaders strategic thinking in line with organisation priorities.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts in an engaging manner to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Be confident in consulting and building relationships with customers and understand their business needs
  • Excellent knowledge of the Data Life Cycle
  • Deep understanding of and experience with cloud-native software architecture patterns, tools, and approaches in an enterprise setting
  • You will have worked on cloud application projects with experience of many aspects of the project from initial design, build, integration and run.
  • Strong experience in creating data solutions.
  • Must have strong MDM experience and the progression to Data Meshes, and the Enablement of “Data Platforms”
  • Solid working knowledge of databases (Azure SQL, MSQL) data lakes (e.g., Azure Data Lake/Delta lakes), Processing tools (e.g., Databricks/HDInsight) and BI and Reporting tools or similar technologies
  • You promote data sharing by using reusable services and re-usable building blocks in different initiatives combined with service-oriented approach
  • General technical interest with an inquisitive nature and someone who likes to solve problems.
  • Working collaboratively in larger teams or be an individual contributor in project engagements
